CHS Guide: Quirky Lunches
This city has its fair-share of sandwich shops and old grocery-turned-cafés. There's no shortage on lunch spots around here—but here are my favorite "off the grid" spots with quirky vibes, smokey environment, and low-key atmosphere.
Brown Dog Deli
The smokey atmosphere and the rock-n-roll vibes makes you want to sit back, grab a beer, and order one of their AMAZING sandwiches off their menu. Don’t be fooled—this is not your average deli.
Queen Street Grocery
A laid back corner store that serves sweet and savory crepes, sandwiches, and salads. Tucked away in a neighborhood a few blocks off of King St, you’ll immediately feel like a Charleston local.
With darker and classy tavern vibes, this is a wonderful dinner spot. But I suggest going against the grain and take a trip here for lunch. Try the tavern burger—or the shrimp burger for a lighter (but just as delicious) option—and be sure to order a bloody mary with it.
I'm not a huge meat-eater myself, but I can totally RAVE about Lewis Barbecue. Even que-lovers from Texas claim Lewis as "probably the best BBQ I've ever had."
